history

Manilal Kher & Co. was founded in 1918 by Mr. Manilal Nanavati and Mr. B. G. Kher. The firm commenced practice on 7th June 1918. The firm enjoys a unique distinction – of being the only firm in Mumbai to have its inauguration ceremony being presided over by the renowned Judge, Mr. Justice Sir Frank C.O. Beaman.

In 1930, Mr. B. G. Kher took to nobler pursuits and began partaking in the freedom struggle working alongside the father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Concurrently, Mr. Manilal D. Nanavati was not keeping good health and could not attend to the affairs of the firm. As it was difficult for the firm to function under these trying conditions, in April 1930, a young solicitor, Mr. Ambalal Parikh was admitted as a Partner.

As the freedom struggle gained momentum, Mr. B. G. Kher immersed himself in it completely. In 1936, he was elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party and later went on to become the first Chief Minister of the erstwhile State of Bombay whilst also acting as the Partner of the firm.

In 1943, the firm was rechristened "Manilal Kher Ambalal & Co." (MKA) since Mr. Ambalal Parikh was a pillar of strength for the firm.

In 1979, Vikram B. Trivedi started his career with the firm as a clerk. After completing his legal studies, he was retained as an Advocate.

Within a short period, Vikram Trivedi’s hard work and desire to excel were noticed and he was admitted as Partner in 1984. He later went on to become the Managing Partner of the firm and took complete charge in early 2000. Over the last ten years, the strength of our associates, client base and employees has doubled. In keeping with the firm’s mantra of creating talent, the seven current partners have all commenced their career at MKA.

The firm prides itself on the fact that it provides equal opportunities for all. Vikram Trivedi himself has risen through the ranks and has ensured that in MKA only hard work, commitment and dedication are rewarded.
